Und eigentlich sagt der Titel auch schon meine beiden Haupt-Impressionen. Man faehrt doch entweder als Tourist oder al Geschaeftsreisender nach Chicago, und daher verbringt man sowieso recht wenig Zeit auf seinem Hotelzimmer, weshalb es nicht viel ausmacht, dass die Waende recht duenn sind. Dafuer sind die Embassy Suites das perfekte Hotel! Direkt Downtown Chicago (2 Blocks von der Michigan Avenue, der belebtesten und besten Einkaufsstrasse, der Midwestern US), genau auf der State Street, der zweit-beliebtesten Einkaufsstrasse Chicagos.
Es ist am besten, nach Chicago-Midway, anstelle von O'hare zu fliegen (zumindest fuer die, die eine Wahl haben), denn die Taxi-kosten vom Airport werden sonst nur noch teurer. Der "El" (die Zuege in Chicago heissen so), faehrt nicht wirklich in die Naehe des Hotels, dafuer ist aber direkt eine U-Bahn-Station nebenan.
Als meine Cousine und ich im Hotel ankamen wurden wir mit einem Laecheln begruesst (was zwar normal sein sollte, es aber nicht immer ist...) und freundlich zu unserem billigen, aber sehr grossem Eck-Zimmer gebracht, das uns zwei wunderbare Ausblicke auf Chicago gab. Die Badezimmer sind komplett mit allem ausgestattet (ja, auch mit Foehn), die Betten sind bequem, das Fernsehprogramm bietet alles von lokalen Kanaelen bis CNN und NBC, und es gibt genug Platz, alle Sachen unterzubringen. Die Ausstattung under der Preis machen mit Sicherheit die duennen Waende (durch die man vielleicht die Leute aus dem Zimmer neben dem Zimmer neben uns noch hoeren konnte) wieder gut.
Das Hotel bietet ausserdem einen sehr schoenen, romantischen Innenhof mit vielen Pflanzen und einem guten Restaurant. Dort wird am Morgen auch das Fruehstuecksbuffet aufgebaut. Dann gibt es noch einen kleinen Pool und ein kleines, aber ausreichendes Fitnesscenter.
Eine der freundlichsten Personen ueberhaupt war der Concierge des Hotels ein dicker, lustig-femininer, Schwarzer! Kein Witz! Ich habe wohl noch nie eine lustigere Person kennengelernt, wahnsinnig freundlich und hilfsbereit. Er wusste alles ueber die Stadt, hatte 1000 Connections und immer wenn er fuer uns eine Reservierung gemacht hat, mussten wir NIE warten - nicht mal eine Minute. DAS nenne ich Rundum-Service!
Wie vielleicht schon einige mitbekommen haben, war ich das letzte halbe Jahr in Amerika.
